The Challenge
The solar PV system needed to be delivered as part of a broader construction programme for a new retail centre, with critical dependencies on builder sequencing, access, and design coordination. The broader build had experienced delays due to weather and challenging ground conditions, increasing schedule pressure as the shopping centre’s opening date approached. The carport system also needed to serve as functional shade structures for the on-grade car park, adding structural complexity and interface risk across trades. The solar carport works were required to be completed within a tight two week onsite construction window, while maintaining safety controls and quality outcomes.
The Solution
TSP Energy provided a design and construct package that integrated the solar PV system and carport structure as one coordinated solution, simplifying delivery and reducing interface risk. Working closely with the developers, building designers, and the construction lead, we delivered a 200 kW solar carport system and a 100 kW rooftop solar system under a fast-tracked programme. Through disciplined planning, proactive issue resolution, and tight coordination across stakeholders, the solar carport was successfully completed within the required two week onsite construction timeframe.
Engineering & Project Management
The project was delivered with a dedicated Project Manager who remained readily available throughout the works and maintained consistent communication with key stakeholders. TSP Energy took a proactive approach to resolving construction issues, coordinating site interfaces, managing safety and access constraints, and accelerating milestones where required. Clear sequencing, structured supervision, and a strong focus on safety and quality ensured the solar carport installation was delivered within the required two week onsite period while maintaining compliance and workmanship standards.
Rebates, Incentives and CO2 Emissions
The Maryland Shopping Village solar installation is a 300 kW commercial system delivered as a combined 200 kW solar carport and 100 kW rooftop PV solution, generating approximately 410 MWh of clean electricity each year. The project was supported by both Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs) and Large-scale Generation Certificates (LGCs), helping improve project economics and accelerate payback.
By generating renewable energy onsite, the system reduces reliance on grid electricity during trading hours, supporting lower operating costs and long-term sustainability outcomes for the centre. The installation is expected to reduce emissions by approximately 400 tonnes of CO2-e per year, while also providing shaded parking through the solar carport structure
Customer Testimonials
“We needed help with the design, manufacture and installation of the 300kW solar system, for our shopping centre at Maryland. The system needed to be part of the shade structures for our on-grade car park. Solar Professionals were able to provide a D&C package that incorporated the structural and PV system as a whole and were the one point of contact to undertake the works for a lump sum cost.
Solar Professionals had a dedicated Project Manager that was readily available and contactable at all times throughout the project and they took a pro-active approach to resolving any construction issues and assisting us with fast tracking the completion of the works to meet tight construction timelines.”
